The NCP1566 is a highly integrated dual-mode active-clamp PWM controller for next-generation high-density, high-performance, and small-to-medium power-level isolated DC-DC converters used in the telecom and datacom industries. It can be configured as voltage mode control with input voltage feed-forward, or as peak current mode control. Peak current mode control also implements input voltage feed-forward. Adjustable adaptive overlap time optimizes system efficiency based on input voltage and load conditions. This controller integrates all necessary control and protection functions required to implement isolated active clamp forward and asymmetrical half-bridge converters. It integrates a high voltage start-up bias regulator. The NCP1566 features a line undervoltage detector, cycle-by-cycle current limit, line voltage dependent maximum duty cycle limit, overvoltage protection, and programmable overtemperature protection using an external thermostat. It also includes dual function pins for communication during fault conditions and for controller shutdown. A dedicated dual-function sync pin simplifies operation when linking function blocks.
